Vi er? with Trondheim Jazz Orchestra

What does it mean to "become" together? What are the words for the opposite of loneliness?
Vi er? (We are? in english) is a process-based orchestra that comes into being through a myriad of encounters. The encounter between the musicians, the sounds and the surroundings, the people who hear us and participate in the expression in the way and the contexts we put ourselves in. The places we play in. The project springs from the original power of jazz as a collective, political, improvised and social art form, and questions the expectations of finished works. Instead, the process is highlighted as an artistic method and practice.

The core of Vi er? is listening, to each other, to the places we find ourselves in, and to the time we live in. The work asks open questions: What is here? Where do we stand locally right now? What do we need at this moment? And how can we make something together from what we have here? Music forms collectively, through being inspired by each other, in the tension field between composed structures and improvisation, where initiatives can be taken, responded to, changed and carried forward.
